Nursery Lesson 3

Title: Heavenly Father's Plan for Us

Purpose:

To help each child understand that we lived with Heavenly Father as spirit children before we came to earth and that we can live with him again after this life.

Welcome:

Greet each child and help him select a toy. You might want to have a leader reading books, which will distract some children, or playing a game they can join.

Playtime: 35 minutes

In addition to the toys, you might like to set up a mirror station again. Have a leader with the station, who can help children look into the mirror and make faces. Talk about the parts of their face. Magnetic paper dolls are also a good lesson-related activity.

Gathering Time: 10 minutes

Do the first two sections, stoping before the first song. Do the third activity under Additional Activities for Young Children. (I lived in Heaven.) Do I am Thankful for My Eyes. Play by asking the children to point to eyes, ears, mouth, nose and so on. Then intentionally get answers wrong and see what they do. "Is this my nose? No? What is it? Oh, it's my mouth. Silly me!" Make a flannel face and flannel facial parts and let children help you make faces. If you make a variety of eyes, ears, hair and other parts, they can make many faces. This can be fun to make many of, letting each child have one to play with. Then make a kit for playtime of them.

Music Time: 10 minutes

Review I am a Child of God. Finish off with wiggle songs, mentioning how well their bodies move.

Snack Time: 10 minutes

Serve healthy snacks, mentioning how we take care of the body Heavenly Father gave us by eating healthy things.

Lesson Time: 10 minutes

The final section of the lesson is about returning to Heavenly Father. This section has many pictures, so take your time and let the children talk about them. Do God's Creations. From the library, get pictures of premortal life, earth life, and heaven. Have three adults each hold one picture, standing in far corners of the room. Have the children go with you from picture to picture. Ask them to tell you about the picture and what they did while they were there or what they will do. If you don't have talkers, tell them yourself. Then review "I Have a Wonderful Body" from the previous lesson. Finish with I Am a Child of God. (You can do one verse each time you sing it today.)

Activity Time: 15 minutes

Do activity 4 from Additional Activities. Make a large puzzle of a child by drawing a simple picture on a large piece of poster board. Cut it into major body parts--hands, arms, legs, feet, head, torso, ears. Let the children help you put it back together. You can have fun by getting it wrong a few times. Do Daddy's Shoes to finish Off.

Closing: Ten minutes

Review the activities the children enjoyed most today. Sing one or two action songs. Follow the Plan pictures around the room again. While waiting for parents, have the children stack blocks or toss beanbags.
