LDS Primary 2009 Sharing Time February Week 4
God’s creations bless us.
Week 4: Class presentation

Preparation: Read the story of the creation to your class and help them make a list of what was created that day. Ask them to quickly make pictures of things that were created. You can do this over several weeks in order to have enough, or you can have them each make several pictures. If you think they’ll argue over who does what, put the numbers 1-6 in a jar and let them choose. They must draw something created that day. There can be more than one picture for each day, and should be in order to take enough time.
At home, cut out the pictures and arrange them on a piece of large poster board. Don’t glue them down. They need to be reusable, so use the blue tacky stuff you can buy in the office section or something similar. Trace around each one, so children can put the pictures onto the correct spot by matching the shape. The next week, the children can draw background scenery if you’d like.
If there is time, let the children help come up with the questions for the game. If not, you’ll need to do it. Each item will have two questions. The first is about how the item blesses us and the second is about how we can take care of it. Example: Flower garden—How do flowers bless us? How can we take care of them?”
Place a number on the back of each cut out item. You might also want a number on the traced space to help you get things back where they belong.
Create a chart with the days of creation and put each of the cutout pictures in the section for the day it was created.
During sharing time, have your class take turns reading about the creation to the other children. If your class can’t read, help them or let each one choose an older child to read their verse.
Now tell the children they’re going to do a puzzle. Let each child in your class take turns choosing someone to come up and select a piece of the puzzle. They’re choosing from the creation chart. The chosen child should answer the questions when you read them or ask for help if they need it. Then he can take the cutout item to the picture board and figure out where it goes. Continue until the picture is complete.
Have the chorister lead or teach “All Things Bright and Beautiful.” (Children’s Songbook, 231.)
Remove the creation chart (but leave the picture poster up.)
Use the pictures found in “For Little Friends,” Friend, Feb 2007, 30–33 for the next activity.
Give the pictures to the children in your class and ask them to stand in the correct order to show the days of creation. (You may have wanted to practice this in class.)
Then have them each take their picture to another child from another class. Let those children come up and try to stand in order also. Continue with different children until it appears everyone knows the order or until the children are about to tire of the game.
Now give the pictures to the children in your class again. Tell all the other children that one student in your class will hold up a picture and everyone is to hold up fingers to show which day it was created. Do this a few times.
Hand out paper and crayons if there is time remaining and ask children to draw a picture of God’s creations.
What do you want to do next?
