LDS Senior Nursery Sharing Times
This week, we're splitting our nursery into two classes because it's become too large. The senior class consists of the children who will be Sunbeams next year, so we're creating a very structured program for them. One thing we're doing is adding a sharing time segment and calling that so it sounds familiar when the children move on. It is centered around scripture stories. We'll do one story a month, repeated weekly with a different focus each time.
15 minutes: Craft related to the sharing time
5 minutes: The story and related activities
5 minutes: Songs related at least loosely to the story
5 minutes: Review of the fun parts of the regular lesson from earlier in the day if time. We're finding we seldom have time for this.
We will start each lesson with the poem found in lesson 23 in the nursery manual, Teach Me the Scriptures, and the song, Search, Ponder, and Pray (also included in the same lesson.)
I'm going to add the lesson plans as I create them. You'll see they are very simple and don't take too much work to prepare. I plan the entire month and once and make the materials, which are often re-used. If you're only doing them for four to six months at the end of the year, save them and simply repeat them each year. The activities can also be used with younger children during gathering times or while waiting for parents.
