Latter-day Saint Wit and Wisdom

Book: Latter-day Saint Wit and Wisdom

Author: David J. Brown

Publisher: Cedar Fort

David J. Brown offers a delightful mixture of humor only a Latter-day Saint will understand and appreciate, with an unexpected dose of touching truth. His book, Latter-day Saint Wit and Wisdom is a small book you can stick in your car and read while waiting for your children at Seminary, Mutual and all the other places LDS parents find themselves waiting.

The first offering is a quiz, sure to remind you that Latter-day Saints have their own vocabulary and culture, although there is a terrible temptation to select the humorous “wrong” answers. Look for signs it’s time to be released from the nursery (you know the names of twenty people in your ward and twelve are babies), you have too little food storage (you are extremely proud of your year’s supply of salt), or you’re a missionary (you put catsup on everything you cook.)

I especially enjoyed the list of questions Sunday School teachers dread, having been asked a few of them. In fact, when I read them to my teenagers, they insisted on debating the answers. (Do YOU know if, during the Millennium, people who aren’t resurrected will be able to date those who are?)

My children like the groaners: What do you get when you cross a butcher with a CEO? A steak president.

Grab a copy, and read it with a friend, especially kids. It’s a fun way to wind up Family Home Evening or just to keep the kids in the room and talking (or laughing or groaning) instead of rushing to their rooms to listen to music.
