Primary Talk: Our Families are Our Forever Friends
I have received a number of requests for emergency Primary talks. Generally, children should write their own Primary talks, with help from their parents. This trains them for future service in the church. However, children, being children, sometimes forget they have a talk to give until you are on your way to church, or even until they are walking into Primary. Following is a talk on the subject of families. Copy and paste it into a word processing program, and adjust it to suit your needs. Change the vocabulary to your child’s reading level, take out any part of the talk you don’t want to use, and add any personal story you want to tell or information you want to include. Then make the print larger and double or triple space the lines if it helps your child to read it more easily. Print it out and place it in your church notebook. If your child carries scriptures in a case, place a copy of the talk in your child’s scriptures. I once knew a child who did this on her own, just in case she could be helpful. She was a real lifesaver the day our assigned Primary speaker was absent without warning.
Our Families are Our Forever Friends
Friends are very special blessings. They play with us so we won’t be lonely. They help us feel good about ourselves. They cheer us up when we are sad. When we have problems, they listen and help us. When we have done something good, they are proud of us. Friends make our lives extra special.
How would you feel if your best friends moved far away? Would you feel sad and lonely? What if you moved far away from your friends? You would make new friends in your new home, but you would miss your old ones.
Our Heavenly Father gave us our families to be our very best friends. They can do all the things our other friends do. They play with us so we won’t be lonely. They help us feel good about ourselves. They cheer us up when we are sad. When we have problems, they listen and help us. When we have done something good, they are proud of us. They make our lives extra special.
Heavenly Father knows we would be sad if we couldn’t be with our families forever, so He planned a way for us to stay families even after we go back to live with Him. We can be sealed in the temple to our families and be a forever family. If our parents were married in the temple before we were born, we are part of the eternal family already and don’t have to go to the temple. Some parents don’t go to the temple until after their children are born. When they are ready to go to the temple, they are married forever and then their children can be sealed to them forever, too.
When we grow up, we can choose to get married in the temple and be a forever family with our husbands or wives and all our children. This is how Heavenly Father planned it for us. He planned for our families to be together forever because He knows we love them and because He loves us. I am working hard to be ready to go to the temple when I grow up.
